Killer Nun

I know it's not Halloween, but is there ever a bad time to watch a horror movie?  I think not.  The latest one to slide across my desk was the classic Italian horror film Killer Nun.  The film was originally released in late 70's has been recently given the royal treatment and a re-release by Arrow Video

The Nun is the "true" story of a nun having issues with her vows, and has been transformed into a sex crazed, drug addict, murderer, or at least that what you think for most of the movie.  The movie has some nice twists that keep you entertained throughout.  I don't want to spoil this one, so that is all I'll comment on.  Other than that the movie looks great, with the restoration, and proves to be a lost gem from the horror genre from the late 70's early 80's.

Bottom Line: A torrid tale of a Nun desparate to find herself.  Does she want to stay of the cloth, or stray to the other debaucherous seedy side of life.  This one was fun, and is a must see for horror fans.

-Ragman can't believe he never saw this one back in the day.

Hitchhike to Hell

I'm loving the classic 70's/80's Grindhouse type horror films, getting re-released these days.  I recently checked out one called Hitchhike to Hell courtesy of Arrow Films.  Arrow has a knack for finding some lost gems, and more obscure films from 30 to 40 years ago and giving them a second chance.  Thanks Arrow!  That said, Hitchhike to Hell is the classic story of a Mamma's boy/Homicidal Maniac.  Sounds like a nice guys doesn't it?

Hitchhike centers around Howard, who is a dry cleaning delivery guy with serious mother issues, and an appetite for hitchhikers.  Sounds creepy doesn't it?  Long story short, if Howard picks up a hitchhiker, that has left home, due to issues with his/her mother, then it's lights out for the hitchhiker.  This one was fun, full of bad acting and cheesy special effects.  This one definitely goes in the B/cult classic category for me.

Bottom Line: If you're looking for a creepy/campy horror film, then Hitchhike is your movie.  It is comical at times, even though I believe it is supposed to be serious, which makes it more funny.  This one is light and fun.

-Ragman was hoping for a little more, but thinks he'll come to enjoy this one more in time, especially after a few beers.

Podcast #261: Urban

Well, it's that time a year again.  Happy Halloween!  Oh shit, that was a month ago, DOH!  Well as you know with The Genghis and Ragman Show, unfortunately history repeats itself when it comes to preserving that tapes from our Halloween outings.  This year, not unlike others, we entrusted the tapes of the show with our producer Jon, and as usual he found a way, through bodily functions, to almost destroy all of the audio captured from our adventures.  Luckily the black box in the car was shit proof and we were able to recover the tapes.  Enjoy!

Join Genghis and Ragman as they go on a ghost/urban legend tour through Texas on Halloween.  Luckily, the boys also find time to talk about some of the darker sides of metal and the way horror and metal are sort of married.  Next they bring back the legendary vocalist Lizzy Borden to discuss his band's latest album My Midnight Things as well as their recent tour with Demons and Wizards.  Lizzy talks about how the tour was put together as well as how it went.  Folks, we don't typically get bills like this in the U.S. so hopefully we'll see more tours like this in 2020.  Lizzy also talks about the old days as well as what The Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years did for Lizzy's career.

Beer of the Show: Parish Brewery - Jameson Barrel Aged Candied Peacan Stout  Rating: 4

2nd Beer of the Show: Saint Arnold - Pumpkinator (2017)  Rating: 4

Featured Tracks:  Mercyful Fate - Nightmare, Children of Bodom - Soon Departed, Green Desert Water - Souls of the Woodland, Lizzy Borden - We Below to the Shadows, Type O Negative - Haunted, Ice Nine Kills - Stabbing in the Dark, Red Tide Rising - The Sound of Voices Screaming, Spirit Adrift - Hear Her, Whitesnake - Crying in the Rain, Helloween - Someone's Crying, Black Elephant - Walking Dead, Swallow the Sun - Upon the Water, Toxic Holocaust - Death Camp, Lizzy Borden - Master of Disguises, Long May They Haunt Us, My Midnight Things, Live Forever

-Ragman is so glad that we were able to save the tapes, from Jon's weapon of mass destruction.

Podcast Interview: Frankie Banali (Quiet Riot)

The boys recently caught up with Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali, to discuss Quiet Riot's latest release Hollywood Cowboys.  Frankie also talks about vocalist James Durbin's departure, and how he didn't hesitate to ask Jizzy Pearl to rejoin the band.  He elaborates that he didn't really have that Oh Shit moment, because his vocalist was leaving after the recording of the new album; it was a seamless transition brining back Pearl.  Frankie also talks about the upcoming 40th anniversary of Metal Health, and what might be in store.

And hey if you dig Quiet Riot's music as much as we do, then show them some love by purchasing their music from your favorite online store won't you?  HORNS UP!

Featured Tracks:  Quiet Riot - Mamma We're All Crazy Now, Roll On, In The Blood, Hellbender, Slick Black Cadillac

-Ragman is looking forward to seeing QR fronted by JP.

Podcast Interview: Eric Martin (Mr. Big)

The lads recently caught up with their friend Eric Martin from Mr. Big.  Eric talks about his latest touring with Avantasia as well as how he got involved with the project.  He also talks about his early days with the EMB, and being on American Bandstand as well as his time in Mr. Big.  Eric also talks about the possibility of a new Mr. Big record as well as a final tour.  Would they use multiple drummers, or can they find a guy that can contribute to the level of a Pat Torpey (RIP).  We all know Pat can not be replaced, but can someone deliver on that level?  Tune in to get Eric's thoughts and more.

And hey if you dig Eric's music as much as we do, then show him some love by purchasing his music from your favorite online store won't you?  HORNS UP!
