Concert review: TYR and Trollfest
This past Monday several Vikings invaded Houston at White Oak Music Hall. That's right the TYR tour rolled through town and it was the place to be. The first band I caught was Aether Realm. I wasn't familiar with them but became an instant fan after seeing them live. Good powerful metal. I couldn't believe they weren't from Europe. Great songs with big choruses. The next band to take the stage was Trollfest. It was my first time to see a metal band dressed like pnk Flamingos. True story. That said, these guys killed. They were so much fun. Hard to put a lable on them. Party metal with a folk metal vibe? Whoi cares about labels? Great songs and fun to see live. My first metal conga line. Go to the show and you will see. The headliner was TYR and they proved why they were the last to go on. They commanded the stage with full Viking authority. They played several tracks from their latest masterpiece Battle Ballads. They had the crowd chanting with them in their native tongue for some of the set which made you feel like you'd been transported straight to Europe. The band was on point and sounded great. What a killer night of metal.
