Podcast #107: Dream
It is still hard to believe that Mike Portnoy has left Dream Theater. I shudder to think what might happen to the band having just lost a key member. Yes, they're all talented, but Portnoy was such an integral part in this band's make up, that it will be hard to imagine them without him. Join Genghis and Ragman as they discuss the departure of Portnoy and the future of DT. Next, the boys rounded up former TNT lead singer Tony Harnell for a one on one as he discusses his current project, The Mercury Train, and their debut CD, Round Trip. Tony gives an in-depth look into the new CD and discusses the challenges of making an old song sound new.

I like Dream Theater but I am not to into prog. I think there is more to the story as these guys do side projects then come back to the fold. Great interview with Tony! For starters the sound is so much better from the US guys....you would think today connections overseas would sound better. I also was very open minded going into this because it is not off Morning Wood. He really makes them sound new yet they are not remakes ala Dokken and others who take the classic and try to redo it an ruin it. By bringing down the songs they sound new yet we can appreciate both versions. I hope he reads this as he is looking too make this work. Tony I say it all the time...hook up on the Casino Tours. Mohegan Sun is so "80's artist" friendly. Talk to the Nelsons. Tony should do Scrap Metal one night there so the venue and fans see him. Many artists played a show with Scrap Metal then got there own gig at the venue after. But this record.
Dude, I'm loving the idea that the Las Vegas of today is for us 40 somethings. Wayne Newton is being replaced by Keel, Quiet Riot and other bands from our growing up. Vegas will be metal!
HORNS UP!
- Genghis wants to see Poison at Caesar's Palace
I mean we knew it would happen but at least now we get to see our bands and they get to make a good buck on a great circuit.
